Also on the authority of Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him), who said: One day, while we were sitting in the blessed presence of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), there appeared before us a man dressed in extremely white clothes and with very black hair. No traces of travel were visible on him, and none of us knew him. He sat down close to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), rested his knees against the blessed knees of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and placed his palms upon the Prophet's (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) thighs.
He said: "O Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Inform me about Islam." The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "Islam is that you bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) is the Beloved Messenger of Allah, that you establish the prayer, pay the zakat, fast during Ramadan, and perform the Hajj to the House if you are able to find a way to it." He said: "You have spoken the truth."
We were astonished at his questioning the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and then confirming the truth of his words. He then said: "Inform me about Iman (faith)." The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "It is that you believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Last Day, and in divine decree — both its good and its evil." He said: "You have spoken the truth."
Then he said: "Inform me about Ihsan (spiritual excellence)." The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "It is that you worship Allah as though you behold Him, and if you do not behold Him, then indeed He beholds you."
He said: "Inform me about the Hour." The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "The one questioned about it knows no more than the questioner." So he said: "Then inform me about its signs." The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, and that you will see the barefooted, unclothed, destitute herdsmen of sheep competing in raising lofty buildings." Then the man departed.
I remained for a while, and then the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "O 'Umar, do you know who the questioner was?" I replied: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "That was Jibril (upon him be peace). He came to teach you your religion."
اردو ترجمہ
حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ہی سے مروی ہے، فرماتے ہیں: ایک دن ہم حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی بارگاہ میں حاضر تھے کہ اچانک ایک شخص نمودار ہوا جس کے کپڑے نہایت سفید اور بال نہایت سیاہ تھے، اس پر سفر کا کوئی اثر نہ تھا اور ہم میں سے کوئی اسے پہچانتا نہ تھا۔ وہ حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سامنے آ بیٹھا، اپنے گھٹنے آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے گھٹنوں سے ملائے اور اپنی ہتھیلیاں آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی رانوں پر رکھ دیں۔
اور عرض کیا: یا محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم)! مجھے اسلام کے بارے میں بتائیے۔
حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اسلام یہ ہے کہ تو گواہی دے کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اللہ کے رسول ہیں، نماز قائم کرے، زکوٰة ادا کرے، رمضان کے روزے رکھے، اور اگر استطاعت ہو تو بیت اللہ کا حج کرے۔
اس نے کہا: آپ نے سچ فرمایا۔ ہمیں تعجب ہوا کہ خود پوچھتا ہے اور خود تصدیق بھی کرتا ہے!
پھر عرض کیا: مجھے ایمان کے بارے میں بتائیے۔ ارشاد فرمایا: یہ کہ تو ایمان لائے اللہ پر، اس کے فرشتوں پر، اس کی کتابوں پر، اس کے رسولوں پر، یومِ آخرت پر، اور تقدیر کے خیر و شر پر۔
اس نے کہا: آپ نے سچ فرمایا۔ پھر عرض کیا: مجھے احسان کے بارے میں بتائیے۔ ارشاد فرمایا: یہ کہ تو اللہ کی عبادت ایسے کرے گویا تو اسے دیکھ رہا ہے، اور اگر تو اسے نہیں دیکھتا تو بے شک وہ تجھے دیکھ رہا ہے۔
عرض کیا: مجھے قیامت کے بارے میں بتائیے۔ ارشاد فرمایا: اس بارے میں جس سے پوچھا جا رہا ہے وہ پوچھنے والے سے زیادہ نہیں جانتا۔
عرض کیا: تو مجھے اس کی نشانیاں بتائیے۔ ارشاد فرمایا: یہ کہ لونڈی اپنی مالکہ کو جنے، اور تو ننگے پاؤں، بے لباس، مفلس بکریوں کے چرواہوں کو اونچی اونچی عمارتیں بنانے میں فخر کرتے دیکھے۔ پھر وہ شخص چلا گیا اور میں کچھ دیر ٹھہرا رہا۔
پھر حضور صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اے عمر! کیا تو جانتا ہے کہ یہ سوال کرنے والا کون تھا؟ میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ اور اس کے رسول بہتر جانتے ہیں۔ ارشاد فرمایا: یہ جبریل (علیہ السلام) تھے، تمہیں تمہارا دین سکھانے آئے تھے۔
