Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) says: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) we used to practice muhaqalah. We would rent out land for a third or a quarter of the produce and for a fixed amount of grain. One day one of my uncles came to us and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has forbidden us from a matter in which was our benefit, but in the pleasure of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) is a greater benefit for us. We have been forbidden from muhaqalah, that is, from renting out land for a third or a quarter of the produce or for a fixed amount. And he commanded that the owner of the land should himself cultivate it or give it to another to cultivate, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) disliked renting it out or leasing it in any other way. اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا رافع بن خدیج رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے عہد میں محاقلہ کیا کرتے تھے۔ زمین کو ثلث، ربع پیداوار اور معین اناج پر کرایہ دیتے ایک روز ہمارے پاس میرے چچاؤں میں سے ایک آیا اور کہنے لگا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ہمیں اس کام سے منع کیا جس میں ہمارا فائدہ تھا، لیکن اللہ اور اس کے رسولصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی خوشی میں ہمیں زیادہ فائدہ ہے، ہمیں محاقلہ سے یعنی زمین کو ثلث یا ربع پیداوار پر یا معین مقدار پر کرایہ پر چلانے سے منع کیا گیا ہے۔ اور حکم فرمایا ہے کہ زمین کا مالک خود اس میں کھیتی کرے یا دوسرے کو کھیتی کے لئے دیدے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے کرایہ پر یا کسی اور طرح پر دینا برا جانا ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 973]
