Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The likeness of a believer is that of a tender plant in a field — the wind bends it this way and that, sometimes knocking it down and sometimes straightening it up, until it dries out. And the likeness of a disbeliever is that of a pine tree standing firm on its roots — nothing shakes it until it is uprooted all at once." In another narration: "The likeness of a believer is that of a crop which the wind bends sometimes and straightens sometimes, until it ripens. And the likeness of a hypocrite is that of a pine tree standing upright — nothing touches it."
