Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace be upon him): He (peace be upon him) said, "When the iqamah for the obligatory prayer is called, there is no prayer except that obligatory prayer." Al-Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) towards Bait al-Maqdis for sixteen months, until this verse was revealed in Surah al-Baqarah: 'Wherever you are, turn your faces towards the Kaaba' (al-Baqarah: 144). This verse was revealed at a time when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had (just) finished praying. A man from among his (peace be upon him) companions, having heard this, set out, and on the way he found some people of the Ansar praying (towards Bait al-Maqdis as usual), so he narrated this hadith to them (that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, had been commanded to face the Kaaba; hearing this) those people turned themselves towards the Kaaba (while still in prayer)."
اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے روایت کرتے ہیں کہآپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: جب فرض نماز کی تکبیر ہو تو کوئی نماز نہیں ہوتی، سوائے اس فرض نماز کے۔ سیدنا براء بن عازب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ بیت المقدس کی طرف سولہ مہینے تک نماز پڑھی، یہاں تک کہ سورۃ البقرہ میں یہ آیت اتری کہ”تم جہاں پر ہو اپنا منہ کعبے کی طرف کرو“(البقرہ: 144) تو یہ آیت اس وقت اتری جب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنماز پڑھ چکے تھے۔ ایک شخص آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھیوں میں سے یہ سن کر چلا، راستے میں انصار کے کچھ لوگوں کو (بیت المقدس کی طرف حسب معمول) نماز پڑھتے ہوئے پایا تو اس نے ان سے یہ حدیث بیان کی (کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو کعبے کی طرف منہ کرنے کا حکم ہوا ہے یہ سن کر) ان لوگوں نے (نماز ہی میں) اپنے آپ کو کعبے کی طرف پھیر لیا۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 263]
