Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not recite the Qur'an to the jinn, nor did he see them. The fact is that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went with his Companions toward the market of Ukaz in the time when the heavens' gates had been closed to the devils and flames of fire were being rained upon them. So a group of the devils went to their people and said, "Our access to the heavens has been cut off, and flames of fire have begun to be rained upon us." They said, "The cause of this must surely be some new matter; so turn toward the east and west and seek out the news, and see what is the reason that the news of the heavens has ceased to come." So they went about the earth toward the east and west. Some of them came toward Tihamah (the land of Hijaz) to go to the market of Ukaz, while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) at that time was leading his Companions in the Fajr prayer at (the place of) Nakhlah. When they heard the Qur'an, they listened attentively to it and said, "This is the very cause of the ceasing of the news of the heavens." Then they returned to their people and said, "O our people! We have heard a wondrous Qur'an which guides to the true path, so we have believed in it and we will never associate anyone with Allah." Then Allah the Exalted revealed Surah al-Jinn to His Prophet (peace be upon him): "O Muhammad (peace be upon him), say that it has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened to the Qur'an." اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے جنات کو قرآن نہیں سنایا اور ان کو دیکھا بھی نہیں۔ واقعہ یہ ہے کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماپنے اصحاب کے ساتھ اس زمانہ میں عکاظ کے بازار گئے جب کہ شیطانوں پر آسمانی دروازے بند ہو گئے تھے اور ان پر آگ کے شعلے برسائے جا رہے تھے۔ چنانچہ شیطانوں کے ایک گروہ نے اپنے لوگوں میں جا کر کہا کہ ہمارا آسمان پر جانا بند ہو گیا اور ہم پر آگ کے شعلے برسنے لگے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس کا سبب ضرور کوئی نیا امر ہے، تو مشرق و مغرب کی طرف پھر کر خبر لو اور دیکھو کہ کیا وجہ ہے جو آسمان کی خبریں آنا بند ہو گئیں۔ وہ زمین میں مشرق و مغرب کی طرف پھرنے لگے۔ ان میں سے کچھ لوگ تہامہ (ملک حجاز) کی طرف عکاظ کے بازار کو جانے کے لئے آئے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماس وقت (مقام) نخل میں اپنے اصحاب کو فجر کی نماز پڑھا رہے تھے۔ جب انہوں نے قرآن سنا تو ادھر کان لگا دیئے اور کہنے لگے کہ آسمان کی خبریں موقوف ہونے کا یہی سبب ہے۔ پھر وہ اپنی قوم کے پاس لوٹ کر گئے اور کہنے لگے کہ اے ہماری قوم کے لوگو!”ہم نے ایک عجب قرآن سنا ہے جو سچی راہ کی طرف لے جاتا ہے، پس ہم اس پر ایمان لائے اور ہم کبھی اللہ کے ساتھ شریک نہ کریں گے“تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے سورۃ الجن اپنے پیغمبرصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپر اتاری کہ”اے محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) کہہ دو کہ میری طرف وحی کی گئی کہ جنوں کی ایک جماعت نے قرآن سنا“۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2172]
