Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) related to us two hadiths (concerning the matter of trust). One of them I have seen, and I await (the fulfillment of) the other. (The first hadith is this:) He (peace be upon him) told us that trust descended into the root of the hearts of people. Then the Qur'an was revealed, and they acquired the Qur'an and acquired the Sunnah. Then he (peace be upon him) related to us the (second) hadith, that trust would be lifted away. So he said: A man will sleep a little while, then trust will be taken from his heart, and its trace will remain like a faint mark. Then he will sleep again, and trust will depart from his heart, and its trace will remain like a blister, as when you roll a live coal onto your foot, then the skin swells and a blister rises which you see raised and bulging, yet there is nothing in it. Then he took a pebble and rolled it onto his foot and said: People will buy and sell, and hardly any of them will discharge the trust, so that it will be said, 'In such-and-such a tribe there is a trustworthy man.' And it will be said of a man, 'How clever, how pleasant, how sensible he is!' (that is, they will praise him), while in his heart there is not faith equal to the weight of a mustard seed. Then Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A time passed over me when I would deal (that is, in transactions) with anyone without any fear, for if he were a Muslim, his religion would restrain him from dishonesty, and if he were a Christian or a Jew, the ruler would restrain him from dishonesty. But today I would never deal with any of you people, except with such-and-such a person.
اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہہم سے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے (امانت کے باب میں) دو حدیثیں بیان کیں۔ ایک کو تو میں دیکھ چکا اور دوسری (کے پورا ہونے) کا منتظر ہوں۔ (پہلی حدیث یہ ہے کہ) آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ہم سے بیان کیا کہ امانت لوگوں کے دلوں کی جڑ پر اتری۔ پھر قرآن نازل ہوا، پس انہوں نے قرآن کو حاصل کیا اور حدیث کو حاصل کیا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ہم سے (دوسری) حدیث بیان فرمائی کہ امانت اٹھ جائے گی۔ تو فرمایا کہ ایک شخص تھوڑی دیر سوئے گا، پھر اس کے دل سے امانت اٹھا لی جائے گی اور اس کا نشان ایک پھیکے رنگ کی طرح رہ جائے گا۔ پھر ایک نیند کرے گا تو امانت دل سے اٹھ جائے گی اور اس کا نشان ایک چھالے کی طرح رہ جائے گا جیسے تو ایک انگارہ اپنے پاؤں پر لڑھکا دے، پھر کھال پھول کر ایک چھالہ (آبلہ) نکل آئے کہ تم اس کو بلند ابھرا ہوا دیکھتے ہو مگر اس میں کچھ نہیں۔ پھر آپ نے ایک کنکری لے کر اپنے پاؤں پر لڑھکائی اور فرمایا کہ لوگ خریدوفروخت کریں گے اور ان میں سے کوئی ایسا نہ ہو گا جو امانت کو ادا کرے، یہاں تک کہ لوگ کہیں گے کہ فلاں قوم میں ایک شخص امانت دار ہے اور یہاں تک کہ ایک شخص کو کہیں گے وہ کیسا ہوشیار، خوش مزاج اور عقلمند ہے (یعنی اس کی تعریف کریں گے) اور اس کے دل میں رائی کے دانے برابر بھی ایمان نہ ہو گا۔ پھر سیدنا حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میرے اوپر ایک دور گزر چکا ہے جب میں بغیر کسی ڈر کے ہر ایک سے معاملہ (یعنی لین دین) کرتا تھا، اس لئے کہ اگر وہ مسلمان ہوتا تو اس کا دین اس کو بےایمانی سے باز رکھتا اور جو نصرانی یا یہودی ہوتا تو حاکم اس کو بےایمانی سے باز رکھتا تھا لیکن آج کے دن تو میں تم لوگوں سے کبھی معاملہ نہ کروں گا، البتہ فلاں اور فلاں شخص سے (معاملہ) کروں گا۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2035]
