Sayyiduna 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "No one loves praise of himself more than Allah does (because He is worthy of praise, while all others have faults and are not worthy of praise); for this reason Allah has praised Himself. And no one is more jealous than Allah; for this reason Allah has forbidden indecencies. And no one loves excuse more than Allah (that is, it is very beloved to Allah that sinful servants offer their excuse before Him and seek forgiveness for their sins); for this reason He sent down the Book and sent the messengers (and taught repentance)."
اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: کسی کو اپنی تعریف کرنا اتنا پسند نہیں ہے جتنا اللہ تعالیٰ کو پسند ہے (کیونکہ وہ تعریف کے لائق ہے اور سب میں عیب موجود ہیں تو تعریف کے قابل نہیں ہیں)، اسی وجہ سے اللہ تعالیٰ نے اپنی خود تعریف کی اور اللہ سے زیادہ غیرت مند کوئی نہیں ہے اسی لئے اللہ تعالیٰ نے فواحش کو حرام قرار دیا ہے۔ اور اللہ تعالیٰ سے زیادہ کسی کو عذر کرنا پسند نہیں ہے (یعنی اللہ تعالیٰ کو یہ بہت پسند ہے کہ گنہگار بندے اس کے سامنے عذر کریں اور اپنے گناہ کی معافی چاہیں) اسی واسطے اس نے کتاب اتاری اور پیغمبروں کو بھیجا (اور توبہ کی تعلیم کی)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1929]
