Hadrat Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and Zuhayr ibn Harb both narrated from Ibn 'Ulayyah; Zuhayr said: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated from Abu Hayyan, from Abu Zur'ah ibn 'Amr ibn Jarir, from Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be well pleased with him), who said: One day the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was sitting among the people. A man came to him and submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), what is faith?' He stated: 'That you believe in Allah, His angels, His Book, the meeting with Him, His Messengers, and the final Resurrection.' He submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), what is Islam?' He stated: 'Islam is that you worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, establish prayer, pay the obligatory zakat, and fast in Ramadan.' He submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), what is ihsan?' He stated: 'That you worship Allah as though you see Him, and even though you do not see Him, He surely sees you.' He submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), when will the Hour come?' He stated: 'The one being asked knows no more than the questioner. I shall tell you of its signs: when the slave-girl gives birth to her master, and when barefooted black people become chiefs competing with one another (in constructing buildings). There are five things that none knows except Allah.' Then the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) recited the verse: {Indeed Allah alone has knowledge of the Hour.} Then the man departed. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: 'Bring him back!' The people went to bring him back but found no trace of him. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'That was Jibril (upon him be peace), who came to teach the people their religion.'

ہم سے حضرت ابو بکر بن ابی شیبہ اور زہیر بن حرب دونوں نے ابن علیہ سے روایت کی، زہیر نے کہا: ہم سے اسماعیل بن ابراہیم نے ابو حیان سے، انہوں نے ابو زرعہ بن عمرو بن جریر سے، انہوں نے حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کی، فرمایا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ایک دن لوگوں کے سامنے تشریف فرما تھے۔ ایک آدمی آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ایمان کیا ہے؟ آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''یہ کہ تم اللہ تعالیٰ، اس کے فرشتوں، اس کی کتاب، اس سے ملاقات، اس کے رسولوں اور آخری قیامت پر ایمان رکھو۔'' اس نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! اسلام کیا ہے؟ ارشاد فرمایا: ''اسلام یہ ہے کہ تم اللہ تعالیٰ کی عبادت کرو اور اس کے ساتھ کسی کو شریک نہ ٹھہراؤ، نماز قائم کرو، فرض زکوٰۃ ادا کرو اور رمضان کے روزے رکھو۔'' عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! احسان کیا ہے؟ ارشاد فرمایا: ''یہ کہ تم اللہ تعالیٰ کی عبادت اس طرح کرو گویا تم اسے دیکھ رہے ہو اور اگر تم اسے نہیں دیکھتے تو وہ تمہیں ضرور دیکھ رہا ہے۔'' عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! قیامت کب آئے گی؟ ارشاد فرمایا: ''جس سے سوال کیا جا رہا ہے وہ سائل سے زیادہ نہیں جانتا، میں تمہیں اس کی نشانیاں بتاتا ہوں: جب لونڈی اپنے مالک کو جنم دے اور جب ننگے پاؤں سیاہ لوگوں کے سردار (عمارتوں میں) ایک دوسرے سے مقابلہ کریں۔ پانچ باتیں ہیں جنہیں اللہ تعالیٰ کے سوا کوئی نہیں جانتا۔'' پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے یہ آیت تلاوت فرمائی: {اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عِنْدَهٗ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ} بے شک قیامت کا علم صرف اللہ کے پاس ہے۔ پھر وہ شخص واپس چلا گیا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ''اسے واپس لاؤ!'' لوگ اسے واپس لانے گئے تو کچھ نظر نہ آیا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''یہ جبرائیل (علیہ السلام) تھے جو لوگوں کو ان کا دین سکھانے آئے تھے۔''
