Sa'id ibn Mansur, Qutayba ibn Sa'id, Abu Kamil al-Jahdari, and Muhammad ibn Abd al-Malik al-Umawi narrated to us — the wording is Abu Kamil's — they said: Abu Awana narrated to us from Qatada, from Yunus ibn Jubayr, from Hittan ibn Abdullah al-Raqashi, who said: I prayed with Hadrat Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be well pleased with him). When he was near the qa'dah (sitting for tashahhud), a man among the people said: Has the prayer been joined with piety and zakah? When Hadrat Abu Musa (may Allah be well pleased with him) completed the prayer and turned with the salam, he said: Which of you said such-and-such words? The people fell silent. He said again: Which of you said such-and-such? The people fell silent. He said: Perhaps you, O Hittan, said it? He submitted: I did not say it, but I was afraid you would rebuke me for it. Then a man among the people said: I said it, and I intended nothing but good by it. Hadrat Abu Musa (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: Do you not know what you should say in your prayer? The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) addressed us, explained our practice to us, and taught us our prayer. He stated: 'When you pray, straighten your rows, then let one of you lead you. When he says the takbir, say the takbir; when he says "Ghayri al-maghdubi alayhim wa la al-dallin," say Amin — Allah shall answer you. When he says the takbir and bows, say the takbir and bow, for the Imam bows before you and raises before you.' The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'So this (delay) compensates for that. When he says "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah," say "Allahumma Rabbana laka al-hamd" — Allah shall hear you, for Allah the Blessed and Exalted has said upon the tongue of His Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah." When he says the takbir and prostrates, say the takbir and prostrate, for the Imam prostrates before you and raises before you.' Peace be upon you, O the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, is His servant and Messenger).'
