Ahmad ibn Ali ibn al-Muthanna informed us, Abu Khaythamah narrated to us, Mu'adh ibn Hisham narrated to us, my father narrated to me from Qatadah from Abu Qilabah from Abu Asma' from Thawban that the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Allah folded up the earth for me so that I saw its east and its west. He gave me the two treasures, the red and the white. The dominion of my ummah will reach what was folded up for me of it. I asked my Lord for my ummah that He not destroy them with a general famine, that He not give power over them to an enemy from other than themselves who would destroy them, and that He not clothe them in sects and make some of them taste the violence of others. He said: 'O Muhammad, when I give a gift, there is no reversal of it. I grant you for your ummah that I will not destroy them with a general famine, and that I will not give power over them to an enemy from other than themselves who would annihilate them, but I will clothe them in sects, even if all from between its horizons gathered against them, until some of them destroy others, some of them annihilate others, and some of them take others captive. Tribes from my ummah will return to idolatry and worship of idols. Among what I fear most for my ummah are misguiding leaders. When the sword is placed among them, it will not be lifted from them until the Day of Resurrection. There will emerge from my ummah liars and impostors, nearly thirty in number. I am the seal of the prophets; there is no prophet after me. A group from my ummah will continue upon the truth, victorious, until the command of Allah comes.'"
