Hadrat Abu Qatadah al-Ansari al-Sulami (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated that he said: We set out with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in the year of Hunayn. When we engaged the enemy, the Muslims had a retreat. I saw a polytheist who had overcome a Muslim, so I came around behind him until I came from his rear, and I struck him on his shoulder blade with one blow and cut through his armor. He turned towards me and embraced me with such a grip that I felt therein the smell of death, then death overtook him and he released me. I caught up with Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab and asked: 'What is happening with the people?' He said: 'It is the decree of Allah.' Then the people returned, and the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: «Whoever killed an enemy and has proof of it shall have his spoils.» Hadrat Abu Qatadah said: So I stood up and asked: 'Who will testify for me?' Then I sat down. Then the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated again: «Whoever killed an enemy and has proof of it shall have his spoils.» So I stood up and asked: 'Who will testify for me?' Then I sat down. Then he said it a third time, so I stood up. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked: «What is the matter with you, O Abu Qatadah?» So I related the story to him. A man from the people said: 'He speaks the truth, O Messenger of Allah, and the spoils of that slain enemy are with me, so compensate him from me.' Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah's pleasure be upon him) said: 'No, by Allah, he does not intend that one of the lions of Allah who fights for Allah and for His Messenger should have his spoils given to you!' The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: «He has spoken the truth, so give it to him.» Abu Qatadah said: So he gave it to me, and I sold the armor and bought with its price a garden in Banu Salamah, and it was the first property I acquired in Islam.

حضرت ابوقتادہ انصاری سلمی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ حنین کے سال نکلے۔ جب ہمارا دشمن سے مقابلہ ہوا تو مسلمانوں کو پسپائی ہوئی۔ میں نے دیکھا کہ ایک مشرک نے ایک مسلمان پر غلبہ پا لیا، میں اس کے پیچھے سے گیا یہاں تک کہ اس کے پیچھے سے آیا اور میں نے اس کے کندھے پر ایک وار کیا اور اس کی زرہ کاٹ دی۔ وہ میری طرف متوجہ ہوا اور مجھے ایسے بھینچا کہ میں نے اس میں موت کی بو محسوس کی، پھر اسے موت آ گئی اور اس نے مجھے چھوڑ دیا۔ میں حضرت عمر بن خطاب کے پاس پہنچا اور پوچھا: 'لوگوں کا کیا حال ہے؟' انہوں نے کہا: 'اللہ کا حکم ہے۔' پھر لوگ واپس آ گئے تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: «جس نے کوئی دشمن قتل کیا اور اس پر گواہ ہے تو اس کے لیے اس کا سامان ہے۔» حضرت ابوقتادہ نے کہا: میں کھڑا ہوا اور کہا: 'میرے لیے کون گواہی دے گا؟' پھر میں بیٹھ گیا۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے دوبارہ ارشاد فرمایا: «جس نے کوئی دشمن قتل کیا اور اس پر گواہ ہے تو اس کے لیے اس کا سامان ہے۔» میں کھڑا ہوا اور کہا: 'میرے لیے کون گواہی دے گا؟' پھر میں بیٹھ گیا۔ پھر آپ نے تیسری بار فرمایا تو میں کھڑا ہوا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: «اے ابوقتادہ! تمہیں کیا ہے؟» میں نے آپ سے واقعہ بیان کیا۔ قوم میں سے ایک آدمی نے کہا: 'یا رسول اللہ! یہ سچ کہتے ہیں اور اس مقتول کا سامان میرے پاس ہے، آپ انہیں مجھ سے راضی کر دیں۔' حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا: 'نہیں، اللہ کی قسم! ایسا نہیں ہو سکتا کہ اللہ کا ایک شیر جو اللہ اور اس کے رسول کے لیے لڑتا ہے، اس کا سامان تمہیں دے دیا جائے۔' رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: «اس نے سچ کہا ہے، اسے دے دو۔» حضرت ابوقتادہ نے کہا: چنانچہ اس نے مجھے دے دیا اور میں نے زرہ بیچ کر اس کی قیمت سے بنو سلمہ میں باغ خریدا اور یہ پہلا مال تھا جو میں نے اسلام میں حاصل کیا۔
