أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الشَّرْقِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الذُّهْلِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ اجْتَمَعَ رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ وَعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَقَالَا وَاللَّهِ لَوْ بَعَثَنَا هَذَيْنِ الْغُلَامَيْنِ قَالَ لِي وَلِلْفَضْلِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَمَّرَهُمَا عَلَى هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَاتِ فَأَدَّيَا مَا يُؤَدِّي النَّاسُ وَأَصَابَا مَا يُصِيبُ النَّاسُ مِنَ الْمَنْفَعَةِ قَالَ فَبَيْنَمَا هُمَا فِي ذَلِكَ جَاءَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَقَالَ مَاذَا تُرِيدَانِ؟ فَأَخْبَرَاهُ بِالَّذِي أَرَادَا فَقَالَ لَا تَفْعَلَا فَوَاللَّهِ مَا هُوَ بِفَاعِلٍ فَقَالَا لِمَ تَصْنَعُ هَذَا فَمَا هَذَا مِنْكَ إِلَّا نَفَاسَةٌ عَلَيْنَا فَوَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ صَحِبْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَنِلْتَ صِهْرَهُ فَمَا نَفِسْنَا ذَلِكَ عَلَيْكَ فَقَالَ أَنَا أَبُو حَسَنٍ أَرْسِلُوهُمَا ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ سَبَقْنَاهُ إِلَى الْحُجْرَةِ فَقُمْنَا عِنْدَهَا حَتَّى مَرَّ بِنَا ﷺ فَأَخَذَ بِآذَانِنَا وَقَالَ «أَخْرِجَا مَا تُصَرِّرَانِ» وَدَخَلَ فَدَخَلْنَا مَعَهُ وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي بَيْتِ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ قَالَ فَكَلَّمْنَاهُ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جِئْنَاكَ لِتُؤَمِّرَنَا عَلَى هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَاتِ فَنُصِيبُ مَا يُصِيبُ النَّاسُ مِنَ الْمَنْفَعَةِ وَنُؤَدِّي إِلَيْكَ مَا يُؤَدِّي النَّاسُ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ إِلَى سَقْفِ الْبَيْتِ حَتَّى أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نُكَلِّمَهُ قَالَ فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَيْنَا زَيْنَبُ مِنْ وَرَاءِ حِجَابِهَا كَأَنَّهَا تَنْهَانَا عَنْ كَلَامِهِ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ فَقَالَ «أَلَا إِنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ لَا تَنْبَغِي لِمُحَمَّدٍ وَلَا لِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ إِنَّمَا هِيَ أَوْسَاخُ النَّاسِ» ادْعُ لِي مَحْمِيَةَ بْنَ جُزْءٍ وَكَانَ عَلَى الْعُشُورِ وَأَبَا سُفْيَانَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ « قَالَ فَأَتَيَا فَقَالَ لِمَحْمِيَةَ » أَنْكِحْ هَذَا الْغُلَامَ ابْنَتَكَ « لِلْفَضْلِ فَأَنْكَحَهُ وَقَالَ لِأَبِي سُفْيَانَ » أَنْكِحْ هَذَا الْغُلَامَ ابْنَتَكَ « قَالَ فَأَنْكَحَنِي ثُمَّ قَالَ لِمَحْمِيَةَ » أَصْدِقْ عَنْهُمَا مِنَ الْخُمُسِ «

Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Al-Hasan bin Al-Sharqi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad bin Yahya Al-Dhuhli narrated to us, saying: Ya'qub bin Ibrahim bin Sa'd informed us, saying: My father narrated to us from Salih bin Kaysan from Ibn Shihab from Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Al-Harith bin Nawfal bin Al-Harith bin Abdul-Muttalib that he informed him that Abdul-Muttalib bin Rabi'ah bin Al-Harith bin Abdul-Muttalib informed him that Rabi'ah bin Al-Harith and Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib gathered and said: By Allah, if we sent these two boys - meaning me and Al-Fadl bin Abbas - to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to appoint them over these charities, they would perform what people perform and receive what people receive of benefit. While they were in that, Ali bin Abi Talib came and said: What do you intend? They informed him of what they intended. He said: Do not do it, for by Allah he will not do it. They said: Why do you do this? This from you is nothing but envy toward us. By Allah, you accompanied the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and obtained his kinship through marriage, and we did not envy you for that. He said: I am Abu Hasan, send them. Then he lay down. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed Zuhr, we preceded him to the chamber and stood there until he passed by us (peace be upon him), and he took our ears and said: "Bring out what you are concealing." He entered, and we entered with him, and he was that day in the house of Zainab bint Jahsh. We spoke to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, we came to you to appoint us over these charities so we may receive what people receive of benefit and deliver to you what people deliver. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was silent and raised his head to the ceiling of the house until we wanted to speak to him. Zainab gestured to us from behind her veil as if she was forbidding us from speaking to him. Then he turned and said: "Indeed, charity is not befitting for Muhammad or the family of Muhammad. It is but the filth of people." Call for me Mahmiyah bin Juz' - and he was over the tithes - and Abu Sufyan bin Al-Harith. They came, and he said to Mahmiyah: "Marry this boy to your daughter" - meaning Al-Fadl - so he married him. And he said to Abu Sufyan: "Marry this boy to your daughter" - so he married me. Then he said to Mahmiyah: "Give them their dowry from the fifth."
