Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) seeking a legal ruling. She said: I was listening from behind the door. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the call to prayer catches me while I am in a state of major ritual impurity. Should I fast?' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'The call to prayer catches me while I am in a state of major ritual impurity, and I fast.' He said: 'You are not like us, O Messenger of Allah. Allah has forgiven your past and future sins.' He said: 'By Allah, I hope that I am the most fearful of you of Allah and the most knowledgeable of you about that for which I have fear.'
