Hadrat Rifa'ah ibn Rafi' (may Allah be well pleased with him), who had participated in the Battle of Badr with the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), narrated that he went out with his maternal cousin Mu'adh ibn Afra' until they reached Makkah. When they descended from the mountain pass, they saw a man beneath a tree. When we saw him, we spoke to him and said: Let us leave our belongings with this man while we perform Tawaf around the Ka'bah. We greeted him with the greeting of the Days of Ignorance, but he responded with the greeting of Islam. We asked: "Who are you?" He stated: "Dismount." So we dismounted and asked: "Where is the man who claims and says what he says?" He stated: "I am he." I said: Then present it to me. So he presented Islam to us and stated: "Who created the heavens and the earth and the mountains?" We said: Allah created them. He stated: "And who created you?" We said: Allah. He stated: "Then who made these idols that you worship?" We said: We did. He stated: "Then is the Creator more worthy of worship or the creation? You are more worthy that they should worship you since you made them, and Allah is more worthy that you worship Him than something you made. I call to the worship of Allah, to the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, to maintaining family ties, and to abandoning the aggression of wrongfully taking from people." We said: By Allah, even if what you call to were false, it would still be among the noblest of matters and the finest of morals. Then Mu'adh ibn Afra' stayed with him while I went to the Ka'bah, performed Tawaf, took out seven divining arrows and designated one for him, faced the Ka'bah and said: O Allah, if what Muhammad calls to is truth, then bring out his arrow seven times. I cast them and it came out seven times. I declared: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. People gathered around me saying: A madman, a man who has become a Sabian! I said: Rather, I am a believing man. Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) taught us Surah Yusuf and 'Read in the name of your Lord who created.' Then we departed returning to Madinah.

حضرت رفاعہ بن رافع رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ جو محبوب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ غزوہ بدر میں شریک ہوئے تھے، سے روایت ہے کہ وہ اپنے خالہ زاد بھائی معاذ بن عفراء کے ساتھ نکلے یہاں تک کہ مکہ پہنچے۔ جب وہ گھاٹی سے اترے تو ایک درخت کے نیچے ایک شخص کو دیکھا۔ جب ہم نے انہیں دیکھا تو بات کی اور کہا: ہم اپنا سامان اس شخص کے پاس رکھ کر بیت اللہ کا طواف کر آتے ہیں۔ ہم نے جاہلیت کا سلام کیا تو انہوں نے اسلام کا سلام جواب دیا۔ ہم نے پوچھا: آپ کون ہیں؟ ارشاد فرمایا: اترو۔ ہم اترے اور پوچھا: وہ شخص کہاں ہے جو دعویٰ کرتا ہے؟ ارشاد فرمایا: میں ہی ہوں۔ میں نے عرض کیا: مجھ پر پیش فرمائیے۔ آپ نے ہم پر اسلام پیش کیا اور فرمایا: آسمانوں اور زمین اور پہاڑوں کو کس نے پیدا کیا؟ ہم نے کہا: اللہ نے۔ فرمایا: تمہیں کس نے پیدا کیا؟ ہم نے کہا: اللہ نے۔ فرمایا: پھر یہ بت جن کی تم عبادت کرتے ہو یہ کس نے بنائے؟ ہم نے کہا: ہم نے۔ فرمایا: تو خالق عبادت کا زیادہ حقدار ہے یا مخلوق؟ تم زیادہ حقدار ہو کہ وہ تمہاری عبادت کریں کیونکہ تم نے انہیں بنایا ہے، اور اللہ زیادہ حقدار ہے کہ تم اس کی عبادت کرو۔ میں اللہ کی عبادت، لا الہ الا اللہ اور میرے رسول اللہ ہونے کی شہادت، صلہ رحمی اور لوگوں کا مال ناحق چھیننے کو چھوڑنے کی دعوت دیتا ہوں۔ ہم نے کہا: اللہ کی قسم اگر آپ جس چیز کی دعوت دیتے ہیں وہ باطل بھی ہوتی تو بھی یہ اعلیٰ ترین امور اور بہترین اخلاق میں سے ہے۔ پھر معاذ بن عفراء ان کے پاس بیٹھ گئے اور میں بیت اللہ آیا، طواف کیا، سات تیر نکالے اور ان میں سے ایک ان کے لیے مقرر کیا، بیت اللہ کی طرف منہ کیا اور کہا: اے اللہ اگر محمد جس چیز کی دعوت دے رہے ہیں وہ حق ہے تو ان کا تیر سات بار نکال۔ میں نے ڈالے تو سات بار نکلا۔ میں نے پکارا: میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔ لوگ جمع ہو گئے اور کہنے لگے: پاگل ہے، بے دین ہو گیا۔ میں نے کہا: بلکہ مومن ہوں۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ہمیں سورہ یوسف اور اقرأ باسم ربک الذی خلق سکھائی۔ پھر ہم مدینہ واپس لوٹے۔
