Musaddad narrated to us, he said Yahya narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said Ata' narrated to me, from Ubayd bin Umayr who said: Hadrat Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be well pleased with him) sought permission to enter upon Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him). Finding him occupied, he returned. Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) said, "Did I not hear the voice of Abdullah bin Qays (Hadrat Abu Musa)? Let him in." When he was summoned, Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) asked, "What made you go back?" He submitted, "We were commanded to do so (i.e., to seek permission three times and then return)." Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) said, "Bring me proof of this, or else I shall take action against you." So he went to a gathering of the Ansar, and they said, "Only the youngest among us will testify to this." Thereupon Hadrat Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be well pleased with him) stood up and said, "We were indeed commanded to do so (i.e., the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, had instructed this)." Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) said, "This instruction of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had remained unknown to me; the trading in the markets had kept me occupied."

ہم سے مسدد نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے یحییٰ نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابن جریج نے، انہوں نے کہا مجھ سے عطاء نے بیان کیا، ان سے عبید بن عمیر نے بیان کیا کہ حضرت ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے یہاں اجازت مانگی۔ انہیں مصروف پایا تو واپس چلے گئے۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: کیا میں نے عبداللہ بن قیس (حضرت ابوموسیٰ) کی آواز نہیں سنی تھی؟ انہیں اندر آنے دو۔ جب انہیں بلایا گیا تو حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے پوچھا: تمہیں واپس جانے پر کس بات نے آمادہ کیا؟ انہوں نے عرض کیا: ہمیں ایسا ہی حکم دیا گیا تھا (یعنی تین بار اجازت مانگ کر واپس آ جانا)۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: اس پر گواہ لاؤ ورنہ میں تمہارے ساتھ ایسا کروں گا۔ پس وہ انصار کی ایک مجلس میں گئے تو انصار نے کہا: اس پر ہم میں سے صرف چھوٹے گواہی دیں گے۔ پس حضرت ابوسعید خدری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کھڑے ہوئے اور فرمایا: ہمیں ایسا ہی حکم دیا گیا تھا (یعنی رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا تھا)۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا یہ حکم مجھ سے مخفی رہ گیا، بازاروں کی خرید و فروخت نے مجھے مشغول رکھا۔
