It is narrated by Hadrat Sahl bin Sa`d that a lady came to Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! I have come to you to offer myself to you." He raised his eyes and looked at her and then lowered his head. When the lady saw that he did not make any decision, she sat down. On that, a man from his companions got up and said. "O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! If you are not in need of this woman, then marry her to me." Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "Do you have anything to offer her?" He replied. "No, by Allah, O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)!" the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated to him, "Go to your family and see if you can find something.' The man went and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! I have not found anything." the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "Try to find something, even if it is an iron ring.'' He went again and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), not even an iron ring, but I have this waist sheet of mine." The man had no upper garment, so he intended to give her, half his waist sheet. So Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, ''What would she do with your waist sheet? If you wear it, she will have nothing of it over her body, and if she wears it, you will have nothing over your body." So that man sat for a long period and then got up, and Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saw him going away, so he ordered somebody to call him. When he came, the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) inquired him, " How much of the Qur'an do you know?" He replied, "I know such Surat and such Surat and such Surat," and went on counting it, the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) inquired him, "Can you recite it by heart?" he replied, "Yes." the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "Go, I have married this lady to you for the amount of the Qur'an you know by heart
اردو ترجمہ
ہم سے قتیبہ بن سعید نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے یعقوب بن عبداللہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابوحازم نے، ان سے سہل بن سعد رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہ ایک خاتون رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئی اور عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! میں آپ کی خدمت میں اپنے آپ کو ہبہ کرنے کے لیے آئی ہوں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کی طرف نظر اٹھا کر دیکھا اور پھر نظر نیچی کر لی اور سر جھکا لیا۔ جب اس خاتون نے دیکھا کہ ان کے بارے میں کوئی فیصلہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے نہیں فرمایا تو وہ بیٹھ گئی۔ پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے صحابہ میں سے ایک صاحب اٹھے اور عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! اگر آپ کو ان کی ضرورت نہیں ہے تو میرے ساتھ ان کا نکاح کر دیں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے دریافت فرمایا تمہارے پاس کچھ ( مہر کے لیے ) بھی ہے۔ انہوں نے عرض کیا نہیں یا رسول اللہ، اللہ کی قسم! تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ اپنے گھر جاؤ اور دیکھو شاید کوئی چیز ملے، وہ صاحب گئے اور واپس آ گئے اور عرض کیا نہیں، اللہ کی قسم! یا رسول اللہ! مجھے وہاں کوئی چیز نہیں ملی۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ پھر دیکھ لو ایک لوہے کی انگوٹھی ہی سہی۔ وہ صاحب گئے اور پھر واپس آ گئے اور عرض کیا نہیں اللہ کی قسم، یا رسول اللہ! لوہے کی ایک انگوٹھی بھی مجھے نہیں ملی۔ البتہ یہ ایک تہبند میرے پاس ہے۔ سہل رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہفرماتے ہیں کہ ان کے پاس کوئی چادر بھی ( اوڑھنے کے لیے ) نہیں تھی۔ اس صحابی نے کہا کہ خاتون کو اس میں سے آدھا پھاڑ کر دے دیجئیے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ تمہارے اس تہبند کا وہ کیا کرے گی۔ اگر تم اسے پہنتے ہو تو اس کے قابل نہیں رہتا اور اگر وہ پہنتی ہے تو تمہارے قابل نہیں۔ پھر وہ صاحب بیٹھ گئے کافی دیر تک بیٹھے رہنے کے بعد اٹھے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے انہیں جاتے ہوئے دیکھا تو بلوایا۔ جب وہ حاضر ہوئے تو آپ نے دریافت فرمایا کہ تمہیں قرآن مجید کتنا یاد ہے؟ انہوں نے بتلایا کہ فلاں، فلاں، فلاں سورتیں مجھے یاد ہیں۔ انہوں نے ان کے نام گنائے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے دریافت فرمایا کہ کیا تم انہیں زبانی پڑھ لیتے ہو؟ عرض کیا جی ہاں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ جاؤ تمہیں قرآن مجید کی جو سورتیں یاد ہیں ان کے بدلے میں میں نے اسے تمہارے نکاح میں دے دیا۔
