It is narrated from Hadrat Imran ibn Husain (may Allah be well pleased with them both) that he stated: We were on a journey with the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). We travelled through the night until, at its last portion, we halted and fell into a deep sleep — and there is nothing sweeter for a traveller than sleep at that hour. Nothing woke us except the heat of the sun. The first to wake was so-and-so, then so-and-so, then so-and-so (Abu Raja' named them but Awf forgot), and the fourth to wake was Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be well pleased with him). And whenever the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) slept, no one would wake him, for we did not know what was being revealed to him in his sleep. When Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) awoke and saw what had befallen the people — and he was a man of great resolve — he proclaimed Takbir loudly. He kept raising his voice with Takbir until the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) awoke from its sound. When he awoke, the people informed him of the situation. He stated, 'No harm done. March on.' So they marched a short distance, then he dismounted and called for water for ablution. He performed Wudu, the call to prayer was given, and he led the people in prayer. When he finished the prayer, he noticed a man standing apart who had not prayed with the congregation. He asked, 'O so-and-so! What prevented you from praying with the people?' The man submitted, 'I am in the state of major impurity (Junub) and there is no water.' He stated, 'Use clean earth (for Tayammum), that is sufficient for you.' Then the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) continued the journey, and the people complained of thirst. He halted and summoned so-and-so (Abu Raja' had named him but Awf forgot) and Hadrat Ali al-Murtada (may Allah ennoble his countenance), and stated, 'Go and find water.' They set out and met a woman sitting on her camel between two water-skins. They asked her, 'Where is the water?' She said, 'I was at the water at this hour yesterday, and our menfolk have stayed behind.' They said, 'Come with us then.' She asked, 'Where to?' They said, 'To the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him).' She said, 'The one they call the Sabi (one who has left his religion)?' They said, 'He is the one you mean. Come along.' They brought her to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and told him the story. The people helped her dismount from her camel. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) called for a vessel, poured some water from the mouths of the water-skins into it, closed their upper mouths, opened the lower spouts, and an announcement was made among the people: 'Drink and give water to your animals!' Whoever wished drank, and whoever wished gave water. Finally, he gave a vessel of water to the man who was Junub and stated, 'Go and pour it over yourself.' The woman stood watching what was being done with her water. By Allah, when the water-skins were returned to her, they appeared to be more full than when they had started! The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) then stated, 'Gather some provisions for her.' They collected dates, flour and parched grain for her until they had gathered a good amount of food. They placed it in a cloth and loaded it onto her camel, placing the bundle before her. He stated to her, 'You know that we did not diminish your water in the least; rather, it is Allah who has given us to drink.' She returned to her family, having been delayed. They asked, 'What delayed you?' She said, 'A remarkable thing happened! Two men met me and took me to the one they call the Sabi, and he did such-and-such. By Allah, he is either the greatest magician between this (pointing to the sky) and this (pointing to the earth)' — she raised her middle and index fingers towards the sky, meaning the heavens and the earth — 'or he is truly the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him).' After that, the Muslims would raid the pagans around her settlement but never harmed the clan to which she belonged. One day she said to her people, 'I think these people spare you deliberately. Do you have any inclination towards Islam?' They accepted her counsel and all embraced Islam.

ہم سے مسدد نے بیان کیا، کہا مجھ سے یحییٰ بن سعید نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے عوف نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے ابورجاء نے حضرت عمران بن حصین رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے فرمایا ہم نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ ایک سفر میں تھے۔ ہم رات بھر چلتے رہے یہاں تک کہ رات کے آخری حصے میں ہم نے پڑاؤ ڈالا اور مسافر کے لیے اس وقت کی نیند سے زیادہ پیاری کوئی چیز نہیں ہوتی۔ ہمیں سورج کی تپش کے سوا کسی چیز نے نہ جگایا۔ سب سے پہلے فلاں بیدار ہوئے پھر فلاں پھر فلاں (ابورجاء نے نام لیے مگر عوف بھول گئے) پھر چوتھے نمبر پر حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیدار ہوئے۔ اور نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم جب سو جاتے تو کوئی آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو نہیں جگاتا تھا یہاں تک کہ آپ خود بیدار ہوں کیونکہ ہمیں معلوم نہیں ہوتا تھا کہ خواب میں آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم پر کیا (وحی) نازل ہو رہی ہے۔ جب حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیدار ہوئے اور لوگوں کی حالت دیکھی اور وہ بہادر دل کے آدمی تھے تو زور زور سے تکبیر کہنے لگے اور اس قدر بلند آواز سے تکبیر کہتے رہے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ان کی آواز سے بیدار ہو گئے۔ جب آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم بیدار ہوئے تو لوگوں نے جو مصیبت آ پڑی تھی اس کی شکایت کی۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کوئی حرج نہیں، کوچ کرو۔ پس آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے کوچ فرمایا اور تھوڑی دور چل کر اترے، وضو کا پانی طلب فرمایا اور وضو کیا۔ نماز کے لیے اذان دی گئی اور آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے لوگوں کو نماز پڑھائی۔ جب نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو دیکھا کہ ایک شخص الگ کھڑا ہے جس نے لوگوں کے ساتھ نماز نہیں پڑھی۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا اے فلاں! تمہیں لوگوں کے ساتھ نماز پڑھنے سے کس چیز نے روکا؟ اس نے عرض کیا مجھے غسل کی ضرورت تھی اور پانی نہیں ہے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا پاک مٹی سے تیمم کر لو، وہ تمہارے لیے کافی ہے۔ پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے سفر جاری رکھا تو لوگوں نے پیاس کی شکایت کی۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اترے اور فلاں کو بلایا (ابورجاء نے نام لیا تھا مگر عوف بھول گئے) اور حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم کو بلایا اور ارشاد فرمایا جاؤ پانی تلاش کرو۔ دونوں حضرات روانہ ہوئے تو راستے میں ایک عورت ملی جو اپنے اونٹ پر پانی کی دو مشکیزوں کے درمیان سوار تھی۔ ان دونوں نے پوچھا پانی کہاں ملتا ہے؟ اس نے کہا کل اسی وقت میں پانی پر تھی اور ہمارے مرد (قبیلے کے لوگ) پیچھے رہ گئے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا اچھا تو ہمارے ساتھ چلو۔ اس نے پوچھا کہاں؟ انہوں نے کہا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس۔ اس نے کہا اچھا وہی جنہیں لوگ صابی کہتے ہیں؟ انہوں نے فرمایا وہی ہیں جن کی تم بات کر رہی ہو، چلو۔ وہ دونوں اسے نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں لائے اور سارا واقعہ بیان کیا۔ لوگوں نے اسے اونٹ سے اتارا اور نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ایک برتن منگوایا۔ دونوں مشکیزوں کے منہ کھول کر اس برتن میں پانی ڈالا پھر ان کے منہ بند کر دیے اور نیچے سے پانی نکلنے کے راستے کھول دیے اور لوگوں میں اعلان ہوا کہ پیو اور پلاؤ۔ جس نے چاہا پیا اور جس نے چاہا پلایا۔ سب سے آخر میں آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اس شخص کو ایک برتن میں پانی دیا جسے غسل کی ضرورت تھی اور ارشاد فرمایا جاؤ اور یہ اپنے اوپر ڈال لو۔ وہ عورت کھڑی دیکھ رہی تھی کہ اس کے پانی سے کیا کچھ ہو رہا ہے۔ اللہ کی قسم جب پانی لینا بند ہوا تو ہمیں ایسا نظر آ رہا تھا کہ مشکیزے پہلے سے بھی زیادہ بھرے ہوئے ہیں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا اس کے لیے کچھ جمع کرو۔ لوگوں نے عجوہ کھجوریں، آٹا اور ستو اس کے لیے جمع کیا یہاں تک کہ کافی کھانا جمع ہو گیا۔ اسے ایک کپڑے میں باندھ کر اس کے اونٹ پر رکھ دیا اور کپڑا اس کے سامنے رکھ دیا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اس سے فرمایا تم جان لو کہ ہم نے تمہارے پانی میں سے کچھ نہیں لیا بلکہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ہمیں سیراب فرمایا ہے۔ وہ اپنے گھر والوں کے پاس پہنچی تو دیر ہو چکی تھی۔ انہوں نے پوچھا کیوں اتنی دیر ہوئی؟ اس نے کہا ایک عجیب بات ہوئی، مجھے دو آدمی ملے جو مجھے اس شخص کے پاس لے گئے جسے صابی کہتے ہیں اور اس نے ایسا ایسا کیا۔ اللہ کی قسم وہ تو اس (آسمان) اور اس (زمین) کے درمیان سب سے بڑا جادوگر ہے — اور اس نے اپنی بیچ کی انگلی اور شہادت کی انگلی آسمان کی طرف اٹھائیں یعنی آسمان و زمین مراد تھے — یا پھر وہ واقعی اللہ کے سچے رسول ہیں۔ اس کے بعد مسلمان اس کے ارد گرد کے مشرکوں پر حملے کرتے مگر اس عورت کے گھرانے کو نقصان نہیں پہنچاتے تھے۔ ایک دن اس عورت نے اپنی قوم سے کہا مجھے لگتا ہے کہ یہ لوگ جان بوجھ کر تمہیں چھوڑ دیتے ہیں تو کیا تمہیں اسلام قبول کرنے کی رغبت ہے؟ قوم نے اس کی بات مان لی اور اسلام قبول کر لیا۔
