Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, he said Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim bin Abdullah, who said: Hadrat Abdullah bin 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said: I heard the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) state: Three men from among those who came before you were travelling and sought shelter in a cave for the night. When they entered, a boulder rolled down from the mountain and sealed the mouth of the cave. They said: Nothing can save you from this boulder except that you supplicate to Allah by invoking your righteous deeds. The first said: O Allah! My parents were very old and I would never give the evening milk to anyone before them. One day I had to go far and returned late; they had already slept. I milked the animals but found them sleeping and could not bring myself to give it to anyone before them. I stood with the bowl in my hand waiting for them to wake until dawn broke. They awoke and drank their milk. O Allah! If I did this seeking Your pleasure, then relieve us of this boulder! The boulder shifted slightly but they could not get out. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: The second said: O Allah! My cousin was the most beloved person to me. I desired her unlawfully but she refused. When a year of famine came, she came to me and I gave her one hundred and twenty dinars on the condition that she submit to me. She agreed, but when I was upon her, she said: It is not lawful for you except through legitimate right. I withdrew from her though she was most beloved to me, and I did not take back the gold. O Allah! If I did this seeking Your pleasure, then relieve us of our affliction! The boulder shifted further but they still could not exit. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: The third said: O Allah! I hired laborers and paid them all their wages except one who left without taking his. I invested his wages until they multiplied into great wealth. After a time he came and said: O servant of Allah! Pay me my wages. I said: All these camels, cattle, sheep, and slaves that you see are from your wages. He said: Do not mock me! I said: I am not mocking you. He took everything and left nothing behind. O Allah! If I did this seeking Your pleasure, then relieve us of our affliction! The boulder moved away completely and they walked out.

ہم سے ابوالیمان نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم کو شعیب نے خبر دی، انہیں زہری نے، ان سے سالم بن عبداللہ نے بیان کیا کہ حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا: میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے سنا، آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: تم سے پہلے کے تین آدمی سفر میں جا رہے تھے۔ رات ہونے پر ایک غار میں پناہ لی۔ جب اندر داخل ہوئے تو پہاڑ سے ایک چٹان لڑھکی اور غار کا منہ بند ہو گیا۔ سب نے کہا: اس چٹان سے نجات صرف یہ ہے کہ اپنے نیک اعمال کا وسیلہ دے کر اللہ تعالیٰ سے دعا کرو۔ ایک نے دعا کی: اے اللہ! میرے ماں باپ بہت بوڑھے تھے اور میں ان سے پہلے کسی کو شام کا دودھ نہ پلاتا تھا۔ ایک دن مجھے دور نکل جانا پڑا اور واپسی میں دیر ہو گئی، وہ سو چکے تھے۔ میں نے دودھ دوہا مگر انہیں سوتا پا کر ان سے پہلے کسی کو دینا مناسب نہ سمجھا، سو پیالہ ہاتھ میں لیے کھڑا رہا یہاں تک کہ صبح ہو گئی۔ وہ جاگے اور دودھ پیا۔ اے اللہ! اگر یہ میں نے تیری رضا کے لیے کیا تو اس چٹان کی مصیبت ہم سے دور فرما! چٹان تھوڑی سی کھسکی مگر نکلنا ممکن نہ تھا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: دوسرے نے دعا کی: اے اللہ! میرے چچا کی لڑکی مجھے سب سے محبوب تھی، میں نے اس سے بدکاری چاہی مگر اس نے انکار کیا۔ جب ایک سال قحط پڑا تو وہ میرے پاس آئی، میں نے اسے ایک سو بیس دینار اس شرط پر دیے کہ وہ مجھ سے خلوت کرے۔ وہ راضی ہو گئی۔ جب قابو پایا تو اس نے کہا: حق کے بغیر تمہیں جائز نہیں۔ میں باز آ گیا حالانکہ وہ مجھے سب سے محبوب تھی اور سونا بھی واپس نہ لیا۔ اے اللہ! اگر یہ تیری رضا کے لیے کیا تو ہماری مصیبت دور فرما! چٹان مزید کھسکی مگر نکلنا ابھی بھی ممکن نہ تھا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: تیسرے نے دعا کی: اے اللہ! میں نے مزدور رکھے اور سب کی مزدوری ادا کی سوائے ایک کے جو اپنی مزدوری چھوڑ گیا۔ میں نے اس کی مزدوری کاروبار میں لگائی یہاں تک کہ اس سے بہت مال ہو گیا۔ کچھ عرصے بعد وہ آیا اور بولا: اے اللہ کے بندے! میری مزدوری دے دو۔ میں نے کہا: یہ سب اونٹ، گائیں، بکریاں اور غلام جو تو دیکھ رہا ہے، یہ سب تمہاری مزدوری سے ہے۔ اس نے کہا: مذاق نہ کرو! میں نے کہا: مذاق نہیں کر رہا۔ اس نے سب کچھ لے لیا اور ذرہ برابر نہیں چھوڑا۔ اے اللہ! اگر یہ میں نے تیری رضا کے لیے کیا تو ہماری مصیبت دور فرما! چٹان مکمل طور پر ہٹ گئی اور وہ تینوں باہر نکل کر چل دیے۔
