Narrated Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would often say to his Companions: 'Has anyone among you seen a dream?' Then whoever Allah willed would narrate. He said one morning: 'Two visitors came to me last night and they woke me up and said to me: "Come along." So I went with them. We came upon a man lying down, and another standing over him with a rock, and he was striking his head with it, crushing it. The stone would roll away and he would follow it and take it back, but by the time he returned, the man\'s head would be restored as it was. Then he would do the same again. I said: "Glory be to Allah! What is this?" They said: "Come along, come along." We went on and came upon a man lying on his back, and another standing over him with an iron hook, and he would tear one side of his face to the back of his head, and his nostril to the back, and his eye to the back, then he would turn to the other side and do the same. No sooner would he finish one side than the first would be restored. I said: "Glory be to Allah! What is this?" They said: "Come along, come along." We went on and came upon something like a pit of fire, with clamor and voices of men and women, and flames would come at them from below. When the flames reached them, they cried out. I said: "Who are these?" They said: "Come along." We went on and came upon a river — I think he said red like blood — and in the river was a man swimming, and on the bank was a man who had gathered many stones. The swimmer would swim until he came to the man with stones, who would open his mouth and throw a stone into it. Then he would swim again and return, and the same would happen. I said: "What is this?" They said: "Come along, come along." We went on and came upon an ugly-looking man tending a fire and running around it. I asked: "What is this?" They said: "Come along, come along." We went on and came upon a lush green garden with every kind of spring flower, and in the middle of the garden was a very tall man, and around him were the most children I had ever seen. I said: "What is this?" They said: "Come along, come along." We went on until we reached a great staircase, the greatest and finest I had ever seen. They said: "Climb it." So I climbed, and we reached a city built of gold and silver bricks. We came to its gate and asked for it to be opened. It was opened for us and we entered. Men met us, half of whose appearance was the most beautiful you could see, and the other half the ugliest. They told them: "Go and immerse yourselves in that river." And there was a river flowing, its water white as pure milk. They went and immersed themselves, then returned with all ugliness removed, now in the most beautiful form. They said to me: "This is the Garden of Eden, and that is your abode." I looked up and saw a palace like a white cloud. They said: "That is your abode." I said: "May Allah bless you both, let me enter it." They said: "Not now, but you shall enter it." I said: "I have seen wonders tonight, so what was all this?" They said: "We shall tell you. The first man whose head was being crushed with a stone is a man who learns the Quran then abandons it and sleeps through the obligatory prayer. The man whose face was being torn is a man who goes out from his house and tells a lie that spreads to the horizons. The naked men and women in the pit are the adulterers and adulteresses. The man swimming in the river who is fed stones is the consumer of usury. The ugly-looking man by the fire is Malik, the keeper of Hellfire. The tall man in the garden is Ibrahim (peace be upon him). The children around him are every child who died upon the fitrah. The people half beautiful and half ugly are those who mixed good deeds with bad, and Allah pardoned them.'"
