Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami informed us: Abu al-Hasan al-Karizi narrated to us: Ali ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us: Abu Ubayd narrated to us: Safwan ibn Isa and Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated from Muhammad ibn Umara. And Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Muqri' informed us: al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us: Yusuf ibn Ya'qub narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr narrated to us: Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated to me: Muhammad ibn Umara narrated from Zaynab bint Nubayt, from her mother who said: I was in the care of the Prophet (peace be upon him), my two sisters and I, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to adorn us with gold and pearls. In Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr's narration: Ibn Ja'far said earrings of gold and pearls. Safwan said raw gold and pearls. Abu Ubayd said Abu Amr said: The singular of ri'ath (earrings) is ra'tha and ra'atha, which is the qurt (earring). These reports and what has been narrated in their meaning indicate the permissibility of women adorning themselves with gold. We have deduced from the consensus on its permissibility for them the abrogation of the reports indicating its prohibition specifically for women. And Allah knows best.
