Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr narrated to us... from Hanash ibn Rabi'ah who said: The sun eclipsed during the time of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He went out and prayed with those present. He recited Surah al-Hajj and Ya-Sin - I do not know which he started with - and he recited aloud. Then he bowed for about as long as his standing, then raised his head and stood for about as long as his standing, then bowed for about as long as his standing, then raised his head and stood for about as long as his standing, then bowed for about as long as his standing - four bowings. Then he prostrated after the fourth. Then he stood and recited Surah al-Hajj and Ya-Sin, then did the same as in the first unit: eight bowings and four prostrations. Then he sat and supplicated, then departed, and his departure coincided with the clearing of the sun. Sulayman al-Shaybani did not attribute it to the Prophet, but al-Hasan ibn al-Hurr narrated it from al-Hakam and attributed it.
