Ali ibn Muhammad al-Muqri informed us... from Abu Burdah, from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade me from al-Qassiyyah and the saddle-cloth. Abu Burdah said: We said to Ali: What is al-Qassiyyah? He said: Garments brought from Syria or Egypt, striped with silk, having patterns like citrons. The saddle-cloth is something women used to make for their husbands, like cushions they would place on the riding saddles. Al-Bukhari indicated it in the chapter heading. Abu Ubayd said: The saddle-cloths were from the riding gear of the non-Arabs, made of brocade or silk. Others said the saddle-cloth was made of predatory animal skins.
