Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr informed us, from Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, from al-Rabi' ibn Sulayman, from al-Shafi'i, from Ibn Uyaynah, from Ibn Shihab, from Anas, that Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in the morning prayer and recited Surah al-Baqarah. Umar said to him: "The sun was about to rise." He replied: "Had it risen, it would not have found us heedless." Qatadah narrated it from Anas with similar meaning and said: "The sun was close to rising."
