Khalid ibn Zayd said: I was a skilled archer and used to practice archery with Uqbah ibn Amir. One day he passed by me and said: O Khalid, come out and let us practice archery. I was slow to join him, so he said: O Khalid, come, let me tell you what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Indeed, Allah the Almighty admits three people to Paradise through a single arrow: its maker who hopes for good in making it, the one who hands it over, and the archer. Shoot and ride, and that you should shoot is more beloved to me than that you should ride. There is no entertainment except three: a man training his horse, a man playing with his wife, and a man shooting with his bow. And whoever learns archery then abandons it - it is a blessing that he has been ungrateful for.'
