Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr informed us; they said: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us: Harun ibn Sulayman narrated to us: Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, from Talhah ibn Abi Sa'id, from Bukayr ibn Abdullah ibn al-Ashajj, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: The tamimah (amulet) is not that which is hung before the affliction; rather, the tamimah is that which is hung after the affliction in order to repel the divine decrees by it. [19607] Abdan narrated it from Ibn al-Mubarak, and said in its text that she said: "The amulets (tama'im) are what is hung before the descent of the affliction; and what is hung after the descent of the affliction is not a tamimah." Abu Abdullah informed me of it by ijazah (licence): al-Hasan ibn Halim informed me: Abu al-Muwajjih reported to us: Abdan reported to us: Abdullah reported to us, and mentioned it — and this is more correct.
