Abu Ahmad al-Mihrajani informed us > Abu Bakr ibn Ja'far al-Muzakki > Muhammad ibn Ibrahim > Ibn Bukayr > Malik > Zayd ibn Aslam > a man from Banu Damrah > his father: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about the aqiqah and said: 'I do not like disobedience (al-uquq)' — as if he disliked the name. He said: 'Whoever has a child born to him and wishes to offer a sacrifice for his child, let him do so.' The scholar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When this is combined with the previous hadith, they strengthen each other, and in both he made it conditional upon one's desire.
