فذَكَرَ مَعْنَى مَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مِلْحَانَ ثنا ابْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ثنا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ عَمْرٍو هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ؓ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَارِجًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَاتَّبَعْتُهُ أَمْشِي وَرَاءَهُ وَلَا يَشْعُرُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ نَخْلًا فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ فَسَجَدَ فَأَطَالَ السُّجُودَ وَأَنَا وَرَاءَهُ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ اللهَ ﷻ قَدْ تَوَفَّاهُ فَأَقْبَلْتُ أَمْشِي حَتَّى جِئْتُهُ فَطَأْطَأْتُ رَأْسِي أَنْظُرُ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ يَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ؟ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ لَمَّا أَطَلْتَ السُّجُودَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خَشِيتُ أَنْ يَكُونَ اللهُ ﷻ قَدْ تَوَفَّى نَفْسَكَ فَجِئْتُ أَنْظُرُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمَّا دَخَلْتُ النَّخْلَ لَقِيتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُبَشِّرُكَ أَنَّ اللهَ ﷻ يَقُولُ مَنْ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكَ سَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَمَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيْكَ صَلَّيْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَرُوِيَ ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي سَنْدَرٍ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ عَنْ مَوْلًى لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ؓ قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ نَسِيَ الصَّلَاةَ عَلَيَّ خُطِئَ بِهِ طَرِيقُ الْجَنَّةِ

He mentioned the meaning of what Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan informed us, Ahmad ibn Ubayd al-Saffar narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Ibrahim ibn Milhan narrated to us, Ibn Bukayr narrated to us, al-Layth narrated to us from Ibn al-Had from Amr - he is Ibn Abi Amr - from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Huwayrith from Muhammad ibn Jubayr from Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I entered the mosque and saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) leaving the mosque, so I followed him, walking behind him without him noticing, until he entered a palm grove. He faced the qiblah and prostrated, extending his prostration while I was behind him, until I thought that Allah the Almighty had taken his soul. I approached walking until I reached him and bent down looking at his face. He raised his head and said: "What is the matter, O Abd al-Rahman?" I said to him: "When you prolonged the prostration, O Messenger of Allah, I feared that Allah the Almighty had taken your soul, so I came to look." He said: "When I entered the palm grove, I met Jibril (peace be upon him), and he said: 'I give you glad tidings that Allah the Almighty says: Whoever sends salaam upon you, I send salaam upon him, and whoever sends blessings upon you, I send blessings upon him.'" It was also narrated from Ibn Abi Sandar al-Aslami from a freedman of Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf from Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever forgets to send blessings upon me has missed the path to Paradise."
