أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقُرَشِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ يَوْمَ الْمَرْجِ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ يَقُولُ لَوْلَا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ سَيَمْنَعُ الدِّينَ بِنَصَارَى مِنْ رَبِيعَةَ عَلَى شَاطِئِ الْفُرَاتِ مَا تَرَكْتُ عَرَبِيًّا إِلَّا قَتَلْتُهُ أَوْ يُسْلِمَ

Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Muqri informed us > al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq > Yusuf ibn Ya'qub > Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah > Yahya ibn Abi Bukayr > Abdullah ibn Umar al-Qurashi > Sa'id ibn Amr ibn Sa'id, who heard his father say on the day of al-Marj: I heard my father say: I heard Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) say: Were it not that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "Indeed, Allah will protect the religion through Christians from Rabi'ah on the banks of the Euphrates," I would not have left any Arab without either killing him or him embracing Islam.
