Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Qadi, and Abu Abdullah Ishaq ibn Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Susi informed us, from Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-Saghani, from Mu'awiyah ibn Amr, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Awza'i, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abdullah ibn Salam who said: We gathered and discussed, saying: Which of us will go to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and ask him which deeds are most beloved to Allah? Then we dispersed, too shy for any of us to go to him. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent for us and gathered us, and some of us gestured to others. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) recited to us: "Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise" until the end of the Surah. Yahya said: Abu Salamah recited it to us from beginning to end. Abu Salamah said: Abdullah ibn Salam recited it to us from beginning to end. Al-Awza'i said: Yahya recited it to us from beginning to end. Abu Ishaq said: Al-Awza'i recited it to us from beginning to end. Mu'awiyah said: Abu Ishaq recited it to us from beginning to end. Abu Bakr al-Saghani said: Mu'awiyah recited it to us from beginning to end. Abu al-Abbas said: Al-Saghani did not recite the entire Surah to us. Abu al-Abbas recited some from its beginning. The Qadi recited some from its beginning. Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz recited the entire Surah to us from beginning to end. And the Shaykh recited it from beginning to end.
