أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ الْعَلَوِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الشَّرْقِيِّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ هَاشِمِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ الطُّوسِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ وَأَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالُوا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمُرَادِيُّ أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ أنبأ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا ؓ يَقُولُ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَا وَالزُّبَيْرَ وَالْمِقْدَادَ فَقَالَ انْطَلِقُوا حَتَّى تَأْتُوا رَوْضَةَ خَاخٍ فَإِنَّ بِهَا ظَعِينَةً مَعَهَا كِتَابٌ فَخَرَجْنَا تَعَادَى بِنَا خَيْلُنَا فَإِذَا نَحْنُ بِظَعِينَةٍ فَقُلْنَا أَخْرِجِي الْكِتَابَ فَقَالَتْ مَا مَعِي كِتَابٌ فَقُلْنَا لَهَا لَتُخْرِجِنَّ الْكِتَابَ أَوْ لَتُلْقِينَّ الثِّيَابَ فَأَخْرَجَتْهُ مِنْ عِقَاصِهَا فَأَتَيْنَا بِهِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَإِذَا فِيهِ مِنْ حَاطِبِ بْنِ أَبِي بَلْتَعَةَ إِلَى أُنَاسٍ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مِمَّنْ بِمَكَّةَ يُخْبِرُ بِبَعْضِ أَمْرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا يَا حَاطِبُ ؟ قَالَ لَا تَعْجَلْ عَلَيَّ إِنِّي كُنْتُ امْرَأً مُلْصَقًا فِي قُرَيْشٍ وَلَمْ أَكُنْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهَا وَكَانَ مَنْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ لَهُمْ قَرَابَاتٌ يَحْمُونَ بِهَا قَرَابَاتِهِمْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِي بِمَكَّةَ قَرَابَةٌ فَأَحْبَبْتُ إِذْ فَاتَنِي ذَلِكَ أَنْ أَتَّخِذَ عِنْدَهُمْ يَدًا وَاللهِ مَا فَعَلْتُهُ شَكًّا فِي دِينِي وَلَا رِضًا بِالْكُفْرِ بَعْدَ الْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّهُ قَدْ صَدَقَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ دَعْنِي أَضْرِبْ عُنُقَ هَذَا الْمُنَافِقِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّهُ قَدْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ اللهَ اطَّلَعَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ فَقَالَ اعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ فَقَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَكُمْ وَنَزَلَتْ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا عَدُوِّي وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءَ تُلْقُونَ إِلَيْهِمْ بِالْمَوَدَّةِ} [الممتحنة 1]

Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Dawud al-Alawi informed us, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Sharqi, from Abdullah ibn Hashim ibn Hayyan al-Tusi, from Sufyan ibn Uyaynah; and Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan, and Abu Zakariyya ibn Abi Ishaq informed us, from Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, from al-Rabi' ibn Sulayman al-Muradi, from al-Shafi'i, from Sufyan ibn Uyaynah, from Amr ibn Dinar, from al-Hasan ibn Muhammad, from Ubaydullah ibn Abi Rafi' who said: I heard Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent me, al-Zubayr, and al-Miqdad, saying: Go to the garden of Khakh, for there you will find a woman carrying a letter. We set out, our horses racing, and found the woman. We said: Hand over the letter. She said: I have no letter. We said: Either produce the letter or we will strip you of your clothes. She took it out from her braids. We brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and it read: From Hatib ibn Abi Balta'ah to people among the polytheists in Makkah, informing them of some of the Prophet's affairs. He said: What is this, O Hatib? He replied: Do not be hasty with me. I was an outsider attached to Quraysh, not one of them. The other Emigrants had relatives to protect their families, but I had no kinship in Makkah. I wanted to gain a favor with them. By Allah, I did not do it out of doubt in my religion or acceptance of disbelief after Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: He has spoken the truth. Umar said: O Messenger of Allah, let me strike the neck of this hypocrite. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: He was present at Badr, and what would you know — perhaps Allah looked upon the people of Badr and said: Do as you wish, for I have forgiven you. Then the verse was revealed: 'O you who believe, do not take My enemy and your enemy as allies, extending affection to them' [60:1].
