Ma'qil ibn Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I married my sister to a man, and he divorced her. When her waiting period ended, he came back to ask for her hand. I said: I honored you and married her to you, then you divorced her. By Allah, she shall never return to you. But the man was of good character. So Allah revealed the verse: 'When you divorce women and they have reached the end of their waiting periods, do not prevent them from marrying their husbands.' (2:232). So I said: Now I will do it, O Messenger of Allah. He said: So he married her to him.
