وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ثنا كَثِيرُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ بُرْقَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ يَقُولُ لَوْلَا أَنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ كَتَبَ الْفَرَائِضَ لَرَأَيْتُ أَنَّهَا سَتَذْهَبُ مِنَ النَّاسِ

Abu al-Husayn informed us: Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Ya'qub ibn Sufyan narrated to us: Abu Bakr ibn Abd al-Malik narrated to us: Kathir ibn Hisham narrated to us: Ja'far ibn Burqan said: I heard al-Zuhri saying: Had Zayd ibn Thabit not written down the laws of inheritance (fara'id), I would have thought they would be lost from the people.
