al-Fadl ibn Dukayn told us: Malik, that is Ibn Mighwal, told us, from Abu Hanzalah, who said: I asked Ibn Umar about the prayer while traveling. He said: 'Two rak'ahs.' I said: 'What then of the word of Allah, blessed and exalted is He, "If you fear..."' - while we are safe? He said: 'It is the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him' - or he said, 'Even so, it is the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.'
