Abu al-Nadr told us, Ishaq ibn Sa'id told us, from his father, from Ibn Umar, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, "Begging leaves scratches on the face of the one who does it on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever grows accustomed to it, let him try to spare his face. The lightest form of begging is asking a relative for something needed, and the best form of begging is that which is done while one is self-sufficient; begin with those you are responsible for."
