Affan told us, Shu'bah told us, from Asim ibn Ubayd Allah: I heard Salim ibn Abd Allah narrating from his father, that Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, do you consider what we do to be a newly-invented matter, a matter just begun, or a matter already concluded?" He said: "A matter already concluded, so act, O Ibn al-Khattab, for everything has been made easy: as for the one destined for felicity, he works toward felicity; and the one destined for misery works toward misery."
