Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr - Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Rahman informed me - from Ibn 'Umar, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: 'The month is twenty-nine days.' This was mentioned to 'A'ishah, and she said: May Allah have mercy on Abu 'Abd al-Rahman. Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ever withdraw from his wives for a month? He ended his withdrawal after twenty-nine days. It was said to him about this, so he said: The month may indeed be twenty-nine days.
