Isma'il told us, Yahya ibn Abi Ishaq told us, a man from Banu Ghifar told me, in the gathering of Salim ibn Abdullah: So-and-so told me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was brought food of bread and meat, and he said, "Hand me the foreleg." So he was handed a foreleg and he ate it. Yahya said: I do not know it except like this. Then he said, "Hand me the foreleg," so he was handed a foreleg and ate it. Then he said, "Hand me the foreleg," so it was said, "O Messenger of Allah, there are only two forelegs." He said, "By your father, if you had kept silent, I would have kept being handed a foreleg of it as long as I asked for it." Salim said: As for this, I did not hear it, but I heard Abdullah ibn Umar say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Allah, Blessed and Exalted, forbids you from swearing by your fathers."
