حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حُسَيْنٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ لَمَّا تَأَيَّمَتْ حَفْصَةُ وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ خُنَيْسِ بْنِ حُذَافَةَ لَقِيَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ عُثْمَانَ فَعَرَضَهَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ مَا لِي فِي النِّسَاءِ حَاجَةٌ وَسَأَنْظُرُ فَلَقِيَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَعَرَضَهَا عَلَيْهِ فَسَكَتَ فَوَجَدَ عُمَرُ فِي نَفْسِهِ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ خَطَبَهَا فَلَقِيَ عُمَرُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ عَرَضْتُهَا عَلَى عُثْمَانَ فَرَدَّنِي وَإِنِّي عَرَضْتُهَا عَلَيْكَ فَسَكَتَّ عَنِّي فَلَأَنَا عَلَيْكَ كُنْتُ أَشَدَّ غَضَبًا مِنِّي عَلَى عُثْمَانَ وَقَدْ رَدَّنِي فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِنَّهُ قَدْ كَانَ ذَكَرَ مِنْ أَمْرِهَا وَكَانَ سِرًّا فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُفْشِيَ السِّرَّ.
انگریزی ترجمہ
Yazid ibn Harun told us, Sufyan - meaning Ibn Husayn - informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from Ibn 'Umar, who said: When Hafsah became a widow - she had been married to Khunays ibn Hudhafah - 'Umar, may God Almighty be pleased with him, met 'Uthman and offered her to him in marriage. 'Uthman said, "I have no need of women at present, but I will consider it." Then he met Abu Bakr and offered her to him, but he was silent. 'Umar felt hurt with Abu Bakr, but then the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, proposed to her. 'Umar then met Abu Bakr and said, "I offered her to 'Uthman and he declined me, and I offered her to you and you were silent toward me, and I was more upset with you than I was with 'Uthman when he declined me." Abu Bakr said, "The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, had already mentioned her, and it was a secret, so I disliked to disclose the secret."
