Isma'il narrated to us: Ibn 'Awn narrated to us, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar, who said: 'Umar acquired land at Khaybar, so he came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to seek his counsel about it. He said: "I have acquired land at Khaybar; I have never acquired any property more precious to me than it. What do you command me [to do] with it?" He said: "If you wish, you may withhold its principal and give it in charity." So 'Umar gave it in charity, [stipulating] that it should not be sold, nor given as a gift, nor inherited. 'Umar gave it in charity for the poor, for relatives, for [freeing] slaves, for the cause of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, for the wayfarer, and for the guest; there being no blame upon whoever administers it if he eats from it in a reasonable manner, or feeds a friend, without accumulating wealth from it.
