Jarir told us, from al-Rukayn, from al-Qasim ibn Hassan, from his uncle Abd al-Rahman ibn Harmalah, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, who said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, disliked ten things: wearing a gold ring, dragging one's lower garment out of pride, and saffron dye" - meaning perfumed dye - "and dyeing grey hair." Jarir said: "He meant by that plucking it out" - "and withdrawing in intercourse away from its proper place without permission, incantations except with the protective surahs, abandoning a child without lawful cause, tying amulets, adorning oneself with ornaments in an improper place, and playing with dice."
