Isma'il narrated to us, Dawud narrated to us - and Ibn Abi Adiyy, from Dawud - from al-Sha'bi, from Alqamah. He said: I met Abu al-Darda'. Ibn Abi Adiyy said in his narration: I arrived in Sham and met Abu al-Darda'. He said: "Where are you from?" I said: "From the people of Kufah." He said: "Will you recite to me the recitation of Ibn Mas'ud?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Recite 'Wal-layli idha yaghsha (By the night when it covers).'" I recited: 'By the night when it covers, and the day when it appears, and the male and the female.' He said: "This is how I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recite it." He said: I think he then laughed.
