Safwan narrated to us: Abdullah ibn Sa'id informed us, from his father, from Abu Shurayh ibn Amr al-Khuza'i, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Beware of sitting in the roadways/public squares; whoever among you sits in such a place, let him give it its due." He said: We said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is its due?" He said, "Lowering the gaze, returning the greeting, and enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong."
