Waki' narrated to us, from Amr ibn Hassan - meaning al-Masli - who said: al-Mughirah ibn Abdullah al-Yashkuri narrated to me, from his father, who said: I entered the mosque of Kufah when its mosque was first built, and it was then among the date-sellers, its walls made of raw brick, and there was a man narrating to the people, saying, "News reached me of the pilgrimage of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, the Farewell Pilgrimage." He said: So I brought along a mount from among my camels, then set out and sat waiting for him along the road to Arafah - or stood waiting for him along the road to Arafah. He said: Then there was a company of riders, and I recognized the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, among them by his description. A man ahead of him said, "Clear the path for the mounts," but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Woe to him, leave him be - what does he want?" So I drew close to him until the heads of our two she-camels crossed. He said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, direct me to a deed that will admit me into Paradise and save me from the Fire." He said, "Excellent, excellent! Though you have been brief in your address, you have been far-reaching in your question. Fear Allah, associate nothing with Allah, establish the prayer, give the zakat, perform pilgrimage to the House, and fast Ramadan. Clear the path for the mounts." He said: Waki' narrated to us, from Yunus - meaning Ibn Abi Ishaq - who said: I heard this report from al-Mughirah ibn Abdullah, from his father, similarly.
