Ya'qub told us: My father told us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Yahya b. Abd Allah b. al-Zubayr told me that his father told him, from his grandmother Asma' bint Abi Bakr, who said: When the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, and Abu Bakr set out with him, Abu Bakr took all his wealth with him — five thousand dirhams, or six thousand dirhams. She said: And he went off with it. She said: Then our grandfather Abu Quhafah came in to us — he had lost his sight — and said, 'By God, I see that he has grieved you by taking his wealth along with himself.' She said: I said, 'Not at all, father; he has left us much good.' She said: So I took some stones and put them in the wall-niche of the house where my father used to put his money, then placed a garment over them. Then I took his hand and said, 'Father, put your hand on this money.' She said: So he put his hand on it and said, 'There is no harm; if he has left you this, he has done well, and in this there is sufficiency for you.' She said: 'No, by God, he left us nothing, but I wanted to comfort the old man's mind with that.'
