Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Ansari narrated to us, he said: Abu Yunus al-Qushayri narrated to us, he said: Abu Qaza'a narrated to me, that Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, while circumambulating the House, said, "May God fight Ibn al-Zubayr, how he lies about the Mother of the Believers and claims he heard her saying that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, 'O Aisha, were it not that your people had so recently left disbelief, I would have torn down the House and added to it from the Hijr, for your people fell short in its construction.'" Al-Harith ibn Abdullah said to him, "Do not say this, O Commander of the Faithful, for I heard Aisha say it." He said, "Did you hear it yourself?" He said, "I heard it myself." He said, "Had I heard this before I tore it down, I would have left it as Ibn al-Zubayr had built it."
