Affan told us: Sallam ibn Abi Muti' told me, from Jabir, from al-Sha'bi, from Yahya ibn al-Jazzar, who said: Aisha said: 'Whoever washes a deceased person and fulfills the trust regarding him' - meaning not to disclose what he observed about him at that time - 'his sins will be as on the day his mother bore him.' She said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Let the one closest of his family attend to washing him, if he knows how; if he does not know, then let one of you whom you consider to have a share of piety or trustworthiness attend to it.'
