al-Hasan b. Sawwar told us, saying: Layth told us, from Mu'awiyah, from Amr b. Qays al-Kindi, that he heard Asim b. Humayd say: I heard Awf b. Malik say: I stood with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he began by using the tooth-stick, then performed ablution, then stood to pray, and I stood with him. He began by opening with Surat al-Baqarah, not passing a verse of mercy without stopping to ask for it, and not passing a verse of punishment without stopping to seek refuge from it. Then he bowed in ruku', and remained bowing for as long as his standing, saying in his bowing, "Glory be to the One of Dominion, Sovereignty, Greatness and Majesty." Then he recited Surat Al Imran, then another surah, doing the same.
