حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَسَنٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَهْلِهِ عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ عَلِيٍّ حِينَ بَعَثَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بِرَايَتِهِ فَلَمَّا دَنَا مِنْ الْحِصْنِ خَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ أَهْلُهُ فَقَاتَلَهُمْ فَضَرَبَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ يَهُودَ فَطَرَحَ تُرْسَهُ مِنْ يَدِهِ فَتَنَاوَلَ عَلِيٌّ بَابًا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْحِصْنِ فَتَرَّسَ بِهِ نَفْسَهُ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ فِي يَدِهِ وَهُوَ يُقَاتِلُ حَتَّى فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَلْقَاهُ مِنْ يَدِهِ حِينَ فَرَغَ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي فِي نَفَرٍ مَعِي سَبْعَةٌ أَنَا ثَامِنُهُمْ نَجْهَدُ عَلَى أَنْ نَقْلِبَ ذَلِكَ الْبَابَ فَمَا نَقْلِبُهُ.

Ya'qub narrated to us: my father narrated to us from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Abdullah ibn Hasan narrated to me from some of his family, from Abu Rafi', freedman of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "We went out with Ali when the Messenger of Allah sent him with his banner. When he drew near the fortress, its people came out to him and fought him. A man of the Jews struck him, causing him to drop his shield from his hand. So Ali took hold of a door that was at the fortress and shielded himself with it. It remained in his hand as he fought until Allah granted him victory. Then he threw it from his hand when he had finished. I saw myself among a group of us - seven, I being the eighth - straining to turn over that door, yet we could not turn it over."
