Aswad ibn Amir narrated to us: Abu Bakr narrated to us from al-A'mash from Sulayman ibn Maysarah from Tariq ibn Shihab from al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad, he said: "When we settled in Medina, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, grouped us in tens -- ten to a house." He said: "I was among the ten with whom the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stayed." He said: "We had nothing but a goat whose milk we would await." He said: "Whenever the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was delayed in coming to us, we would drink and leave the Prophet's share, peace and blessings be upon him, for him. Then one night he was delayed." He said: "We went to sleep, and al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad said: 'The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, has stayed away long; I do not think he will come tonight -- perhaps someone has invited him.'" He said: "So I drank it. Then, when part of the night had passed, he came and entered the house." He said: "When I had drunk it, I could not sleep." He said: "When he entered, he gave the greeting of peace without raising his voice, then went to the vessel. When he saw nothing in it, he said nothing, then said: 'O Allah, feed whoever has fed us tonight.'" He said: "I jumped up, took the knife, and got up toward the goat." He said: "What is the matter with you?" I said: "I am going to slaughter it." He said: "No, bring the goat to me." So I brought it to him, and he wiped its udder, and something came out; then he drank and slept.
