Abu Usamah told us: Mis'ar informed me: Umar ibn Qays told me, from Amr ibn Abi Qurrah al-Kindi, who said: My father offered his sister in marriage to Salman, but he declined and married a freedwoman of his called Buqayrah. He said: It reached Abu Qurrah that there was something between Salman and Hudhayfah, so he went to find him and was told he was in a vegetable garden of his. He went toward him and met him carrying a basket with vegetables, having put his staff through the handle of the basket, which was on his shoulder. He said: "Abu Abdullah, what was between you and Hudhayfah?" Salman said: "{And man is ever hasty}." Then the two of them went until they reached Salman's house, and Salman entered the house and said: "Peace be upon you," and then asked permission to enter. There was a carpet laid on a door, and by its head some bricks, and there were two earrings. He said: "Sit on the bedding of your mistress that she spreads for herself." Then he began to relate to him. He said: "Hudhayfah used to relate things that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said in his anger about certain people, and I would be asked about them and I would say: 'Hudhayfah knows better what he says,' disliking that there should be grudges between people. So Hudhayfah was told: 'Salman neither confirms nor denies what you say.' So Hudhayfah came to me and said: 'O Salman, son of Umm Salman.' I said: 'O Hudhayfah, son of Umm Hudhayfah, you had better stop, or I will write to Umar.' When I frightened him with Umar, he left me alone. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: 'I am but a son of Adam; whichever believing servant I curse with a curse or revile with a reproach unjustly, make that a prayer of blessing upon him.'"
